CANNABIS CONSUMPTION: SMOKING AND EATING
Traditionally, smoking has been the way for people to consume cannabis, more specifically marijuana. However, as innovation within the industry comes new methods of cannabis consumption are made. Newer ways primarily involve eating cannabis products through cannabis edibles or adding them through your meals with cannabis oils.
This opens the conversation about the safety of the more traditional way of cannabis consumption in comparison to eating it. Let’s dive deeper into this question today. But first, let’s discuss the difference between a body high and a head high.
BODY HIGH VS. HEAD HIGH: THE DIFFERENCE
Cannabis consumers have different reasons to want to consume the product. But most commonly is to get the sense of getting “high.” There are two main types of high that come from cannabis consumption, namely, body high and head high. Primarily, body highs are gained by eating cannabis products to get a sense of relaxation. On the other hand, head highs are usually a result of smoking cannabis which leads to mood-altering and energetic effects on the consumer.
It’s important to highlight that it’s still important to know whether the cannabis product is THC or CBD-based. Since CBD-infused cannabis products, which are gained from the hemp plant, don’t cause any of the two kinds of high. While THC-infused products from the marijuana plant do.
CANNABIS CONSUMPTION: SMOKING Vs. EATING
Generally, smoking has been known to be a bad habit. When comparing smoking cigarettes to cannabis, there is still a difference. However, both have been seen to have inflammatory effects on the respiratory system that could affect the overall health of the lungs.
Due to the classification of marijuana being a Schedule I drug to know the full extent of its effects both positively and negatively is still unknown. But it is advised by the American Lung Association that anyone who is immunosuppressant or has a weaker immune system to avoid smoking cannabis, particularly marijuana as it makes the user more vulnerable to risk for infections. Even though there is no evidence of smoking cannabis increases the number of white blood cells, it is known that a cannabis consumer who smokes marijuana is more prone to infections.
Now, how about eating cannabis? Well, it would seem that eating cannabis products would be the safer choice again. Since the product isn’t heated to release or activate its chemical compounds. Plus, it has a wide variety of options on how you can consume it from cannabis edibles, oils, drinks, and more. But its overall unpredictability is a factor that you need to consider.
Earlier we talked about the difference between a body high and a head high. When eating a cannabis product, it results in a body high, if it’s THC-based. However, unlike head high, the effects aren’t instantaneous. So you must be aware of the dosing of the edible or cannabis product that you are eating beforehand. This is to avoid the uncomfortable feeling of being overwhelmed with the unexpected feeling of getting high.
